The Letter of Paul, 2nd Timothy, in a call of urgency, to ethical responsibility, to actions of sacrifice, mercy, justice, prayer, service – DISCIPLESHIP!
“If I am not for myself, who will be for me? If I am only for myself, who am I? If not now, when?” (1st Century Rabbi Hillel). “If not us, who? If not now, when?” (John F. Kennedy)
Jesus, another 1st Century Rabbi, embraced this idea, embodied it. When it comes to our salvation, Jesus embodied, “If not me, who? If not now, when?” And he willingly died for our sins.
What about you, is God calling you to something sacrificial? A personal ethical responsibility? A point of action? Jesus says to everyone he calls, “Come, follow me.” The implications are great. “Walk in my steps.” “As I have done for you, do for others.” The implications are urgent, involve engagement, to sacrificial lifestyle.
Our walk through 2nd Timothy will continue to urge us, encourage us, to step out in courage in following Jesus. It’s a call to active growing discipleship. No status quo… only status grow and status go. So, let’s go and grow.
Paul will invite us to follow him as he follows Jesus. Lets go! 2nd Timothy 2L:1-7 for this Sunday. Communion celebration and fellowship feast as well. See you Sunday,
