Been thinkin’. What makes for a lasting foundation. When it comes to a house, build it on a rock.
Our country turns 250 years old this week, as the longest, oldest, continuous, current modern democracy in the world. That’s something. What makes for a lasting foundation? Seems like a number of factors… a federal republic with checks and balances, electoral representation, separation of powers… protected rights of free speech, freedom of religion (expression and assembly), right to bear arms… maybe more foundational is the idea that ‘human beings are created equal’, a strong nod to ‘the image of God’ in every human being, who has ‘inalienable rights to life and liberty’… much of lasting foundation flows from these things.
Yet, I’ve been thinkin’. What makes for a lasting foundation? Although, from our nations founding, blessings have flowed to its citizens in different ways in different times throughout its history because of these beliefs and convictions, there is lasting foundation for life and freedom that runs much deeper than what is enshrined in a countries founding documents and its lasting legacy.
According to Scripture, one’s life is foundational grounded in founded in God. Jesus is the rock, and a house (life) built on the rock stands firm. A life built on Jesus, blessings flow. And talk about lasting, it can be abundant now and is forever eternal.
Happy Birthday America! May the Lord bless you, as you seek to bless its citizens, may you bless the world as we are blessed by others. Thank you God. I’m grateful for the country of which I have been born into. Yet, more foundational, I’m grateful for Jesus, the Rock on which I can build my life upon.
