2026-06-15: Pastor Mark Quist – Growing in Christ: What other Disciplines are there? Cultivating a Relationship with our God
What is the greatest command? Sure, you’ve heard it before… Love God with all your heart, soul, and strength.’ Another command is most closely related to it, ‘Love your neighbor.’
What does that really mean? Jesus tells us everything we need to know about loving our neighbor – telling stories, through teaching, through doing… seems to me that ‘loving our neighbor’ involves more than desiring and feeling love toward your neighbor. It must involve actually loving your neighbor with tangible action. What does that look like? When you look at the Gospel accounts of Jesus’ life, there are many clues as to how best to love your neighbor. So it’s good to get to know Jesus and follow him. That’s what we are all about here at Crestview.
We may make an unexpected turn into CS Lewis, The Abolition of Man, and The Desecration of Man by Carl R. Trueman to look deeper into this… will see where the Holy Spirit leads through the weekend. Bring it on! Official summer is just around the corner!
See you Sunday!
Pastor Mark
PS – Summertime is a wonderful way to engage in positive summer practices. Perhaps one positive practice could be engaging more reading – making more time for it, using some leisure time to engage it (creating some leisure time for it). Maybe, you will enjoy this chapel talk to about 600 students by our oldest daughter Elle Nieuwsma, who is a High School English teacher. As her Dad, of course, I think she nails it! Maybe this summer you could engage in the positive summer practice of reading. Enjoy. You Tube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?
