In a small group setting a couple weeks ago, I asked the group a question, “What do you think people are most in need of today?”  It’s a fascinating question, because the moment it’s asked, one can’t help but think about “What am I most in need of today?”  The question also cuts through the small talk of life and focuses the conversation on something important.  It’s a ‘what matters’ question, getting to a ‘why it matters’ answer.

The answers were varied, but predictable.  The #1 theme?  People are most in need of connection.  That’s interesting.  Connection.  In a world where everyone is connected, it would seem, through instant communication anytime, anywhere in the world, we would be well connected.  Yet, that isn’t the reality on the ground.  It’s not the reality of the human heart.

We were created for connection, for community.  It’s core to all of us being created in God’s image.  Something is, and has, gone wrong.  The evidence is all around us.  People feeling lonely and disconnected. What can we do?

One thing we can do is recapture the heart and Spirit of God planted in each of us, by engaging in regular generosity and hospitality.  Let’s dive into this on Sunday, as we continue to understand God’s redemptive missional call in our lives.  It begins with God, “God so love the world, that he gave…” It begins with Jesus, “Since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet.”

There it is, a big human need, an abundant giving God, and a stunning example set before us.  What is it that God is calling us to give?

See you Sunday,
