Worship for Sunday May 24th, 2020:

Step One: Worship with prayer and song:

            Prayer: Prayer Statement

Our Almighty Father is redeeming all things and calls us to be his hands and feet.

We cannot proclaim to the world a relationship we lack ourselves

Or produce the power of change from our own strength.

Rather, we respond by receiving the love of Christ

And his abiding presence with us.

Through daily and weekly rhythms of worship,

We disrupt our own agenda to align ourselves with the work of the Holy Spirit

And express our faith and every thought, word, and deed.

(Weekly prayer from Coalition for Christian Outreach)

Song:  Forever, Chris Tomlin

“I lift my eyes to the hills… where does my help come from?  The Maker of heaven and earth.”  Psalm 121

Prayer: Read this prayer aloud and begin with a time of silence

Our Father who is in heaven, holy is your name!

Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day, our daily needs.

And forgive us our sins, and we forgive those who sin against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.

For yours is the kingdom, the power, and the glory forever!

AMEN.

(The Prayer of our Lord)

(silence)

Song: What Can I Give by Jeff Widenhofer (Matt Redmond)

Scripture:  Read aloud. Matthew 25

‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance,

The kingdom of God prepared for you since the creation of the world.

For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat,

I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink,

I was a stranger and you invited me in,

I needed clothes and you clothed me,

I was sick and you looked after me,

I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

“Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these,

brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

Step Two: Special Offering for the month of May: Bethany   How can you support Bethany in its mission to support infants, children, and teens in need?  Here are two video clips to further understand the local and global work of Bethany: The Adoption of Lukas (4 min) and an Interview with a Local Foster Care Family (17 min).  Special Offerings can be sent to Crestview during the month of May.

Also, a note from Jared LeFebre about our involvement and volunteering at Bridge House Community Table and with Path to Home: Play Video (3 min)

Step Three: Engage the Message: The Good Samaritan Luke 10:25-37 and Matthew 25:31-46, The What-Why-How for Such a Time as This (20 min)

VIDEO Part 1: (11 min)
VIDEO Part 2: (9 min)

Questions for discussion:

  • Which of these (passion – heart, prayer – spirit, muscle – body, intelligence – mind) do you most often sense the love of God flowing through you to others?  How can you engage that more often in showing compassion for others?
  • What fears, obstacles, or assumptions get in the way of you being able to more fully engage loving others with more gracious compassion?
  • How does knowing, understanding, and experiencing God’s absolute love for you encourage and empower your love for others?

Step Four: Responding to God’s Word

Song: Have Thine Own Way Lord by Jeff Widenhofer

A Final Blessing: Pastor Mark
