Message Series: The Book of James: Faith Does

Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. James 1:23-24

Scripture Passages and Lyrics to worship songs

An Old Testament reading from Ecclesiastes 5:1-3 and 1 Samuel 3

“Guard your steps when you go to the house of God.  Go near to listen rather than to offer the sacrifice of fools, who do not now that they do wrong.  Do not be quick with your mouth, do not be hasty in your heart to utter anything before God.  God is in heaven and you are on earth, so let your words be few.  A dream comes when there are many cares, and many words mark the speech of a fool.” (Eccl 5)

“The Lord called to Samuel, and Samuel answered, “Here I am.”  Again, the Lord called to Samuel, “Samuel!”  And Samuel replied, “Here I am; you called me.”  A 3rd time God called to Samuel, “Samuel!”  Samuel again replied, “Here I am; you called me.”  And then one more time, God called to Samuel, “Samuel!  Samuel!”  And Samuel answered, “Speak Lord, for your servant is listening.” 1 Samuel 3

A New Testament reading from John 10:27 and Psalm 23

“The Lord is my Shepherd, I lack nothing.  He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside still waters, he refreshes my soul.  He guides me along in right paths for his name’s sake.”

“I am the Good Shepherd.  My sheep listen to my voice; I know them and they know me.”

This is the Word of the Lord.  Thanks be to God

10,000 Reasons
(Refrain) Bless the Lord, Oh my soul Oh my soul, worship his holy name
Sing like never before, Oh my soul I’ll worship your holy name

The sun comes up, it’s a new day dawning, It’s time to sing your song again Whatever may pass and whatever lies before me
Let me be singing when the evening comes

(Refrain)

You’re rich in love and You’re slow to anger, Your name is great and Your heart is kind
For all Your goodness, I will keep on singing
Ten thousand reasons for my heart to find

(Refrain)

And on that day when my strength is failing, The end draws near and my time has come, Still my soul will sing Your praise unending
Ten thousand years and then forevermore

(Refrain)

How Great Is Our God
The splendor of a King, clothed in majesty
Let all the earth rejoice, all the earth rejoice
He wraps himself in light, and darkness tries to hide
And trembles at His voice, trembles at His voice

How great is our God, sing with meHow great is our God, and all will see
How great, how great is our God

Age to age He stands, and time is in His hands
Beginning and the end, beginning and the end
The Godhead Three in One, Father Spirit Son
The Lion and the Lamb, the Lion and the Lamb

How great is our God, sing with meHow great is our God, and all will see
How great, how great is our God
