EASTER SERVICE – April 4, 2021

WELCOME and INTRO

READING

“I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.  He descended into Hell.  On the 3rd day he arose again from the dead, he ascended into heaven where he is seated at the right hand of God the Father, Almighty, from there he will come to judge the living and the dead.”

From Matthew 28, John 21, and Acts 1: “After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, May Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb.  There was a violent earthquake, for an angle of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled the stone and sat upon it.  (Victory!). His appearance was like lightning, his clothes white as snow.  The angel said, “Do not be afraid, for I know you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified.  He is not here; he has risen, just as he said.”

He is risen!  He is risen indeed!

The woman run to go tell the other disciples, afraid, yet filled with Joy!  Along the way, they meet Jesus… Again, he says, “Don’t be afraid.  Go and tell the others the good news.”  Jesus also appears to two men on the road to Emmaus, who were talking about the tragic events of the weekend.  And when Jesus breaks bread with them, they recognize him!  Jesus then appears to the 11 disciples and says, “Peace be with you!”  And he eats with them.  They exclaim, “My Lord, and my God!”  After all this, Jesus meets them on the shore a bit later while they are fishing, no fish, “Caste the net on the other side.” Jesus calls out.  And they catch a spectacular net full of fish.  “My Lord, and my God.”

“Follow me!  Feed my sheep!  Go, tell the world about me.”

When Luke begins writing about the early church, he says, that Jesus birth, life, death, and resurrection is only the beginning.  After Jesus resurrection, he presented himself to them and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive.  He appeared to them for 40 days, teaching them about the Kingdom of God before he ascended into heaven, before their very eyes.

He is risen!  He is risen indeed!

SONG: Christ the Lord is Risen Today

Christ the Lord is ris’n today, Alleluia

Sons of men and angels say, Alleluia

Raise your joys and triumphs high, Alleluia

Sing, ye heav’ns, and earth, reply, Alleluia

Lives again our glorious King, Alleluia

Where, O death, is now thy sting? Alleluia

Dying once he all did save, Alleluia

Where thy victory, O grave? Alleluia

Love’s redeeming work is done, Alleluia

Fought the fight, the battle won, Alleluia

Death in vain forbids His rise, Alleluia

Christ hath opened paradise, Alleluia

Soar we now where Christ hath led, Alleluia

Foll’wing our exalted Head, Alleluia

Made like Him, like Him we rise, Alleluia

Ours the cross, the grave, the skies, Alleluia

Hail the Lord of earth and heaven, Alleluia

Praise to Thee by both be given, Alleluia

Thee we greet triumphant now, Alleluia

Hail the Resurrection, thou, Alleluia

SONG: In Christ Alone

In Christ alone my  hope is found

He is my light, my strength, my song

This Cornerstone, this  solid  ground

Firm through the fiercest drought and storm

What heights of love, what depths of peace

When fears are stilled, when strivings cease

My comforter, my  all  in  all

Here in the love of Christ I stand

In Christ alone who took on flesh

Fulness of  God  in  helpless  babe

This gift of love and righteousness

Scorned by the ones  he came to save

Till on that cross as  Jesus  died

The wrath of God  was  sa – tis – fied

For every sin on him was laid

Here in the death of Christ I live

No guilt in life, no fear in death

This is the pow’r of Christ in me

From life’s first cry to  final  breath

Jesus commands my des-ti-ny

No power of  hell, no scheme of man

Can ever  pluck me from his hand

Till he returns or calls me home

Here in the power of Christ I’ll stand

MESSAGE: The Centrality of Christ: Persevere! Hebrews 10:19-25

SONG: How Deep the Father’s Love For Us

How deep the Father’s love for us

How vast beyond all measure

That He should give His only Son

To make a wretch His treasure

How great the pain of searing loss

The Father turns His face away

As wounds which mar the Chosen One

Bring many sons to glory

Behold the man upon a cross

My sin upon His shoulders

Ashamed I hear my mocking voice

Call out among the scoffers

It was my sin that held Him there

Until it was accomplished

His dying breath has brought me life

I know that it is finished

I will not boast in anything

No gifts, no power, no wisdom

But I will boast in Jesus Christ

His death and resurrection

Why should I gain from His reward

I cannot give an answer

But this I know with all my heart

His wounds have paid my ransom

BLESSING
