Exodus: Gods Story Our Story: God calls and raises up delivers in unexpected ways with unexpected people – Part 2

In Exodus chapter 2, we see God’s plan of redemption, God’s story, unfolding in real time with real people.  God raises up deliverers in unexpected ways in unexpected places with unexpected people.  We saw this with the Hebrew midwives Shiphrah and Puah in chapter 1.  This week we see three more women in Moses’ mother, sister, and even in Pharaoh’s own daughter, ‘fearing God’ rather than man.

Pharaoh, who issues an edict of immediate death to every Hebrew boy born in Egypt, must throw every Hebrew boy into the Nile, is defied by his own daughter.  Unexpected.  Beautiful. This baby boy is rescued from the ‘watery grave’, and given the name by Pharaoh’s daughter of Moses, which means ‘to draw out, drawn from water.’  This story looks back and looks forward to what God has done and is about to do.  Moses will become the chosen servant of God’s deliverance in about 80 years from his birth.  God’s story is our story.  And God is always, in every age, in all places and all times calling a people to himself.

All three of these women knew what was right from what was wrong, and more than that, they acted on their knowledge with courage and conviction.  No doubt considering the risk and the cost.  These 10 verses (2:1-10) are filled to the gills with Scriptural truth.  God’s plan of redemption is unfolding.  And God is choosing to work in a ‘holy/human’ weave of history, in unexpected ways and places with unexpected people along the way.

These five women in Exodus chapter 1-2 all recognized the vulnerability of this baby… have your eyes, ears, and hands open to what God is calling you to see and do today.

  In Him,

      Mark
