2026-07-26: 2 Timothy: Dying and Rising
This message series from 2nd Timothy has highlighted with every verse and chapter the centrality of Discipleship: Knowing Jesus and making Him known! And discipleship has everything to do with ‘knowing Jesus and making him known.’
If Jesus is who he says he is – the Lord of Heaven and Earth, the Savior of the World, the Lover of our Souls, the One who sets us free from sin and shame – and He is – how will he be known?
Romans 10 speaks about this, “How can others come to know and believe in Jesus if they haven’t heard?” Good question. The hearing about Jesus comes with the talking about Jesus, sharing Jesus, living for Jesus. This goes back to last week’s catch phrase, “If not you, then who? If not now, when?”
Last week Paul encouraged us to make Jesus known. In knowing Jesus, pass Jesus on! Sometimes we feel we may not know enough about Jesus to speak of Jesus… other times we are simply afraid… too timid… worried perhaps about the cost. If Jesus is who he says he is (and he is), do we not believe God will make a way, help us know what to say, give voice and behavior to Jesus being known in our lives today?
Making Jesus known isn’t limited by God. Making Jesus known is limited by our reluctance to make Jesus known. In reading 2nd Timothy 2:2 again this week, I was struck by this verse, “The things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others.” Do I trust Jesus? Am I a reliable witness?
Sunday, we continue with our walk through 2nd Timothy with a focus on chapter 2:8-13. “God’s Word (living and written) is not chained…” We who know and believe in Jesus have died and risen with Christ. In enduring, we are reigning with Christ. God is faithful, even in our unfaithfulness. God’s word is not chained…
